Education: Online and Ongoing

Mark Twain said  ” I have never let schooling interfere with my education.”

Adults have many reasons that their education stalled.  One may have dreamed of an Ivy League education, but time, money, circumstances or GPA prevented it.  Now we can attend a 12 part lecture series on Philosophy at Harvard, learn more about Media, Education and the Marketplace at MIT or sit in on Introduction to Psychology at Yale.

AcademicEarth.org was founded in 2008 “with the goal of giving everyone on earth access to a world-class education.” College credit is not available for courses but Academic Earth states that you should “feel free to learn as much as you like.” They are working to identify the barriers that keep people from receiving the education they want and to “find innovative ways to use technology to increase the ease of learning. ”

Bill Gates spotlighted the site in his annual letter in 2010 when he discussed the benefits of online learning. TechCrunch refers to Academic Earth as Hulu for Education
